Gay Theology Without Apology by Gary David Comstock. (Pilgrim Press, 1993). A collection of personal essays that present a Gay theology based on scripture and tradition, written by a Wesleyan University chaplalin and sociologist.

Stranger at the Gate: To Be Gay and Christian in America by Mel White (New York: Plume, 1995). A classic book by an evangelical minister who used to write speeches for Ollie North, Jerry Falwell, Billy Graham, Pat Robertson, and Jim Bakker. A devoted Christian, father, husband, and minister, White finally came out of the closet after nearly reaching the point of suicide. The author presents a first-person account of how the religious right uses homophobia as a political hot button.

What the Bible Really Says about Homosexuality by Father David Helminiak (Alamo Square Press, 1994). A short book that is excellent in pointing out defenses for those who would condemn Gays with Biblical arguments, this volume refutes the fundamentalist view that is so often used to browbeat Gay Christians.

Wrestling with the Angel: Faith and Religion in the lives of Gay Men edited by Brian Bouldrey (Riverhead Books, 1996). A number of eloquent writers describe their paths toward integrating their spiritual and sexual identities. Includes pieces by Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, and Mormon (Antonio Feliz) writers.
